League of Mexican American Women awards scholarships to Central Valley students at Clovis banquet

CLOVIS, Calif. (KFSN) -- A local organization focused on education support honored dozens of students Sunday during a scholarship banquet in Clovis.

The League of Mexican American Women hosted the event at the Clovis Veterans Memorial, celebrating 31 scholarship recipients and recognizing their academic achievements. Students attended the banquet with their families.

League representatives said they are proud to support the scholars and their efforts to continue their education.

Luz Mendoza, a member of the organization, said the students' perseverance stood out.

"It's just amazing to see what some of the students have endured, decided to continue on is very inspirational," Mendoza said.

Ana Alfaro, director of the Central Valley Women's Business Center at Fresno State, served as the keynote speaker.

The League of Mexican American Women has awarded more than $690,000 in scholarships.
